PPIB trying for upward revision of Davis power reference tariff
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): The Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) is manoeuvring for upward revision in reference tariff for the 10.5 mw power project of Davis Energen Limited (DEL) as, according to Nepra working, revised tariff has been calculated on 72 percent plant factor instead of 60 percent, sources told Business Recorder.




'$800 million payment dispute with Etisalat to be resolved in March'
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): Minister for Privatisation Waqar Ahmed Khan on Monday said that the dispute of payment of $800 million between Etisalat and the government of Pakistan would be resolved in March. The Minister stated this at a press conference here. He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved next month and $800 million would be released to Pakistan soon.




ECC may allocate 16mmcfd more gas to Pak-Arab Fertiliser
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, is likely to approve allocation of 16 mmcfd additional gas for Pak-Arab Fertiliser Limited (PFL) from Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) system for its expansion amid opposition from Ministry of Industry, Business Recorder has learnt.




Tax machinery will be able to collect Rs 1,380 billion: IMF review meeting at Dubai to be informed
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): The Federal Board of Revenue will inform the International Monetary Fund that the tax machinery will be able to collect Rs 1,380 billion with the help of enforcement and administrative measures to generate additional revenue during 2009-10. A senior government official told Business Recorder on Monday that four FBR officials would participate in the IMF review meeting at Dubai from February 10-16, 2010.



CCoR finalises roadmap for PSEs' restructuring
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Restructuring (CCoR) on Monday decided that financial restructuring along with improvement in operational and corporate governance of eight Public Sector Entities (PSEs) would be undertaken to turn them into viable production units.

17 Indian soldiers killed in held Kashmir avalanche
OCCUPIED SRINAGAR (February 09, 2010): Seventeen Indian occupation soldiers were killed on Monday in an avalanche that slammed into a group of 70 combat troops at a high-altitude warfare training camp in occupied Kashmir, the army said on Monday. Army spokesman Colonel Vineet Sood said the avalanche struck in the Khelenmarg mountains, close to the Kashmiri ski resort of Gulmarg.



Navy gets new frigate: Pakistan not to engage in arms race, says Prime Minister
KARACHI (February 09, 2010): Pakistan is a peace-loving country that does not want to be engaged in an arms race and that its strategic as well as conventional capabilities are focused towards legitimate defence needs and promotion of peace. This was stated by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Monday as chief guest at the induction ceremony of PNS Shamsheer at the PN Dockyard.



Delhi Games force Pakistan diplomats to move home
NEW DELHI (February 09, 2010): New Delhi's preparations for the Commonwealth Games have forced a group of Pakistani diplomats to search for new homes after their residential enclave was earmarked for a new road project. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said the houses of the four Pakistani envoys stood on an 11.2 acre (4.5 hectare) site occupied illegally by a private builder in the Indian capital's upscale Vasant Vihar diplomatic enclave.




Pakistan's Naseem become fastest women of South Asia
DHAKA (February 09, 2010): Pakistan's Naseem Akhtar produced a historic and stunning show by becoming the fastest woman of the region when she snapped up a gold medal by winning the 100-metre sprint event of the 11th South Asian Games here on Monday. 22-year-old from Rawalpindi clocked 11.81 seconds to emerge as the queen of the track with her sterling show before a strong crowd at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
