Rs 100 billion from PSDP funds may be diverted to provinces
ISLAMABAD (September 06, 2010): The Federal government is considering to divert to provinces Rs 100 billion earmarked under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2010-11 for early relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees due to poor response from the world community, Business Recorder has learnt. The government had earmarked Rs 280 billion for federal component of PSDP 2010-11.




Setting up of business incubation centres for women entrepreneurs on the cards
SIALKOT (September 06, 2010): Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) under a network plan would establish 15 Women Business Incubation Centres (WBIC) in various parts of the country and Azad Kashmir. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday that under the four Women Business Incubation Centres in Sindh, five in Punjab, two in NWFP, two in Balochistan, one each in Azad Kashmir and Northern areas would be established.



Contract to widen Kashmir Highway signed
ISLAMABAD (September 06, 2010): The Capital Development Authority Sunday awarded a contract to widen northern carriageway of Kashmir Highway costing almost Rs 1.85 billion rupees as the matter of first phase is yet subjudice with the court.



Pakistan given $1.03 billion so far: 80 percent of aid money to be disbursed through NGOs, says Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD (September 05, 2010): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that international donor agencies including the United Nations and some foreign countries have so far given $1.03 billion aid besides 137 planeloads of goods and medicines. He said a meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) has been summoned on Monday (September 6) and the Chief Ministers of all the four provinces would participate in the meeting.



Pakistan may urge UN to make fresh aid appeal
ISLAMABAD (September 05, 2010): Pakistan is considering to requesting the United Nations (UN) to make a fresh appeal for one billion dollars due to higher than expected flood damage, Business Recorder has learnt. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is working on the magnitude of devastation's of floods and is expected to endorse a fresh appeal to the UN by September 17, 2010.



'US Chamber fully backs Pakistani demand for duty-free imports'
LAHORE (September 05, 2010): US Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue has fully supported the longstanding just demand of duty-free imports of Pak products on an urgent basis to bail the country out of super flood devastation.



PIAF-Founders Alliance to start campaign for LCCI election
LAHORE (September 05, 2010): The PIAF-Founders Alliance has chalked out a comprehensive programme to visit different markets in the city in connection with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry's election campaign. The elections for the 37 seats in the Corporate Class and Associate Class will be held on September 20 and 21 respectively.



Sindh set to oppose Flood Commission report at CCI meeting
KARACHI (September 05, 2010): The Sindh government would strongly oppose the Federal Flood Commission's report, indicating heavy losses caused by the super flood in different provinces at the one-item agenda meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI), Business Recorder learnt on Saturday.



Tax return e-filing: KCCI demands extension in deadline
KARACHI (September 05, 2010): President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Abdul Majid Haji Mohammad and Chairman Taxation Sub-committee, Qamar Usman have demanded that the date of e-filing income tax return should be extended for at-least 30 days, up to October 31 in view of the devastating floods and prevailing economical turmoil in the country.



Punjab to suggest formula for distribution of funds: CCI meeting on September 6
LAHORE (September 05, 2010): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led Punjab government will suggest the federal government to devise a formula regarding distribution of funds among the provinces in proportion to the flood losses each province have suffered, in the meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) being held at Islamabad on Monday (tomorrow).
